Review of Holes
Oh, the tangle of problems between characters! Do you enjoy these kinds of stories? Then, HOLES by Louis Sachar is the perfect book for you! I know this sounds complicated, but this book has a story, and another story in the story. And the other story's character is related to another story. If you're confused, read this book!
HOLES is a story about Stanley Yelnats, who always seems he's "in the wrong time at the wrong place." His dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-grandfather got cursed because he broke a promise with Mrs. Zeroni. He promised to take her with him to a mountain, looks like God's thumb. He broke it, so Mrs. Zeroni cursed him by generations. Stanley Yelnats went to Camp Green Lake, where boys dig holes to "build a good characteristic." There, he became friends with Hector Zeroni, Mrs. Zeroni's great-great-grandson. One day, Hector hit another boy and escaped. Stanley followed him and they travelled to find God's thumb. They found it, but Zero, Hector's nickname, fell down so Caveman, or Stanley, took him with him to God's thumb. They drunk water there, ate onions there. One day, Stanley suggested to go back to Camp Green Lake to dig the last hole. When they arrived, they got caught by people. What is worse, rattlesnakes ran toward two boys.
If would be boring if I give you how the story ends. Actually, the ending is not as interesting as the middle part, but you can't put down this book until you finish whole book. Even if you just want to finish climax and stop reading, you can't because every part seems like the climax. When you feel like the climax is finished, only five pages are left, so you eventually read one book. This book can be complicated, but you don't need to understand the whole things. Actually, you would not want to understand those things because the story is so interesting!
Would two boys die because of rattlesnakes? Or, would they go back to their comfortable house? Would Stanley's curse can be disappeared? If you are curious, if you love reading books, if you love complicated stories, or if you want to read a very interesting story, I strongly recommend you read HOLES and fall into the bookworld!

An Ode to my Bed
An Ode to my Bed
by Song Seoyeon (Katrina)
Whenever I am exhausted,
I need you so much.
You make me fall asleep,
and lead me to a dreamworld.
Every night I go to you,
you greet me happily.
Every morning I leave you,
but I miss you in the day.
Oh, oh, I can't live without you
When I sent you to a factory,
I slept in the cold floor
and I missed you real a lot.
My bed, my bed, my bed!
You are so comfortable
and I love you so much.
My bed, you're my sincere friend!

The Padlocked Chest -by Chae Jiyeon and Song Seoyeon
In the middle ages, there was a small village named Headpiece. People living there are called "Headpiecers." All of them wore helmets. Headpiece was located inside an enormous mountain, so no one knew about the beautiful village. Headpiecers were all positive and cheerful there. They had a big party everyday, drink all together, and play all together. Because only 50 people lived there, they lived like a big family. There was only one school and one class per grade.
A class leader of the seventh grade was Tangly, who always had a hard time combing tangled-hair. Her best friend was Bighatty, an only shy girl in the village. She wore a big hat that hide her eyes. In the school, a rumor about an abandoned house was spreading out fast. The abandoned house was located on the top of the enormour mountain. According to the rumore, a big giant with great muscles lived there. Headpiecers believed the rumor, thus they did not go near the abandoned house.
One beautiful day, Tangly and Bighatty were playing tag in the mountain. They ran and rolled over the mountain. Accidently, they reached the abandoned house. Bighatty saw the scary-looking house, so she screamed. Tangly came and suggested to adventure the house. It was made of wood, and had broken windows. Bighatty did not want to go in, but she could not reject Tangly's suggestion.
They opened the door. It made squeaking sound. When two girls stepped on the floor, it made sqeaking sound as well. They looked up the leaking ceiling. The house was very dark, and there were spider webs, bats, and mice everywhere. Bighatty screamed, went out, and Tangly followed her. While going back to the village, Tangly suggested to come back at midnight. Bighatty didn't love the idea, but again, couldn't argue with her shy voice.
Time passed, and midnight came. A full moon was on the sky, wolves crying. Tangly and Bighatty went up the mountain. Suddently, a bear came out, and the bear looked hungry. Two girls were in hurry-scurry. They were frightened. Then, a strong muscle guy came and hit the bear with a piece of wood. The bear immediately died. Two girls were about to say Thank you, but the strong muscle guy disappeared. Confused girls stood still there for a few minutes. Then, they continued their journey.
They finally arrived the abandoned house. They went inside again. Tangly's feet were caught on a paddlocked chest. They wanted to open it, but it was locked. Then they saw a shadow of strong muscle guy on the wall. They looked back, and he was Dirtly.
Dirtly was short, skinny and smelly. He was in the same class with two girls. He had no friends because of his terrible smell. Muscles that two girls saw were actually flies, always following him. His uniforms were ruined. Dirtly spoke in a low voice.
"You must say the right answer of my riddle to open the chest.
Guess what is this.
This can see the thing that you cannot see now.
This has only one partner in the world.
This has its own identity.
Also, this can solve your problem.
What is this?"
Two girls, Tangly and Bighatty thought about the riddle. Then, Bighatty said,
"I don't know the answer. But I need more keys to solve it." Tangly shouted. "Oh, yes! The answer is a KEY!!! Is it right, Dirtly?" "I... I don't know the right answer. But try this. If you are right, the padlocked chest will open." Tangly grabbed the key and gried it immediately.
It opened! Bright light shone. There were three things in the chest. There was a comb made of metal. It was very strong. Everyone noticed that it was for Tangly. From that time, Tangly didn't have a problem with her hair. The second one was a perfume. It was sweet-smelling, and it was for Dirtly. He didn't smell powerful stink anymore. And he could make some friends at school. The last one was a small hat for Bighatty. At first, she was shy because she had to take off the hat. When she changed her headpiece, she had very beautiful eyes. She became confident of herself.
The chest was a magic chest for those who need help. This is the end of our story.

Narrative Essay
Imagine, you are hungry. And you are watching hot dumpling soup right in front of you. What are you going to do? Of course, you will pounce to the hot dumpling soup and eat it before other people see it. However, I won't. I won't eat hot dumpling soup. I won't pounce to the hot food.
I was a two year-old baby. I could not remember the accident because it's like more than ten years ago. But my mom used to tell this story to me. When I was two, one day, I must be very hungry. My cousins were all in my house. I mean, more than twenty people were there. My mom cooked a hot dumpling soup for everybody. She put the hot soup on the table. I must be curious or very hungry.
I lifted up the soup, but, oops! I was not as strong as mom. Don't forget that I was two. I dropped the soup bowl and I dripped on my left leg. It must be hot. In front of all cousins, I cried a lot.
Until now, I have two scars because of the hot soup, not that small. Even though I can't remember, I did get two lessons by looking those ugly scars. Don't eat dumpling soup. (I really hate dumpling soup.) Don't hurry up to eat food, even though you are very hungry.

Television is Bad
Do you like watching televisions? If so, what do your parents say when you watch televisions? "Stop watching televisions! What's it good for? Nothing!" From my point of view, televisions have good sides as well, but it has more negative sides. I have two reasons. My first reason is that televisions can make no-talking-families. The second one is that televisions are not good for your health. I have some more reasons but I will write only two reasons.
First, televisions can make situations worse where families do not communicate well. Families can fight easily when they watch televisions because of choosing channels to watch. Fightings lead silence in the house. Also, when a family member turns off the televisions, they shout at each other and fight. A family is a group consisting of one or two parents, their children, and CLOSE relationships. When you fight with your family, it is hard to say sorry first. Thus, the family will not talk to each other. I believe that families without communicating is not a FAMILY.
Second, televisions are bad for health. Watching televisions can make people overweight. While watching televisions, we tend to eat cookies with unconsciousness. Then it is easy to be fat. If you are fat, your friends will tease you. Furthermore, related to health problems, your eyesights can be worse. You have to wear glasses, and you might want to have a lasik surgery when you grow, very expensive. Likewise, televisions cause too many health problems.
These are all of my reasons. If you have free time, don't watch televisions too much. I do not mean that never watch televisions. What I'm saying, is that do no twatch televisions that much. When your mom or dad turns off the television, do not shout at them. Find a better hobby that is very active and you can enjoy with your family. Think about your health and try to exercise more rather than sitting and eating cookies, watching televisions. In conclusion, televisions have more harm than good.

INTRODUCING MYSELF - SEOYEON SONG
My name is Seoyeon Song and please call my Korean name. Let me introduce my family members. There are four members in my family, my mother, father, older brother and me. My parents are really nice. My mother never shout at me even though I get low scores in the tests. My father works in Nonghyup. My older brother is seventeen years old, and he goes to Shin-il high school. He used to play with me a lot but because he is busy now, I cannot even see his face except on weekends.
My hobby is playing the piano. When I was young, I really loved playing the piano and once dreamed to be a pianist. Now, my dream is not related to the piano things, but I play the piano very often. My favorite musics are theme songs in Howl's moving castle. They are all beautiful. My another hobby is reading books. My favorite books are Holes, written by Louis Sachar, and My Sister Jodie, written by Jacqueline Wilson. I can forger about my worries while I am reading a book.
Mr. Ganse nicknamed me 'textoholic' because one friend introduced me that I love text messaging with my mom. However, I do not agree with my nickname. I sent lots of messages on the first and second day in GLPS because I was little bit scared. But now, I do not send messages that much. Before coming this camp, I sent about 200 messages a month, which is very smaller than normal Korean teenagers. Thus, I do not like my nickname at all because it is not true. I want another nickname that really fits me.
